| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description The World of Gemstones is a unique book that introduces the layperson to this complex world in simple and easily understandable terms. Describing what constitutes a gemstone, their history and some myths and legends surrounding them begin the introduction. This is followed by a section covering seventy or so gems with an emphasis on diamond, particularly its identification. A section on organic gems i.e. ivory, shell, coral etc. follows. Both these sections are fully illustrated with color photographs of the stones. A trip around the world follows, covering many countries visited by those on holiday or business and describing what, and in some cases where, to buy. Words of warning are also given as to what one should avoid. The influence of the Internet is recognized, with relevant websites helpfully listed. Appendices cover translation in four European languages, physical properties of the gems and colours.A glossary of terms and a comprehensive index is included.

| Customer Reviews: great if limited July 8, 2008 James Benson 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
I bought this book and received the volume immediately. The book is slender but has a great set of pictures of the different gems. The book is set up like a dictionary with a discussion of each major (and many minor) gem usually with a review of how to identify it and how to distinguish some of the more common fakes.
My only objection is that the book wasn't long enough.
I liked the book a lot and would recommend it to anyone who loves gems.
Great detail! November 17, 2007 Lee D. (Airville, PA United States) 14 out of 17 found this review helpful
If you need a book on Gemstones, this is the one. Awesome pictures and great detail on discribing the many different gems around the world. If you are a collector of gemstones, this is a MUST HAVE!"

A pretty good book, especially the opening sections about the history of gemstones and the methods used to identify diamonds.
Not Worth It December 26, 2008 Rose M. Welch (Lawton, OK) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
The book was factually incorrect in several places and outdated in several others. The photos were alright but not worth the price. Skip it.
